now to the breaking news out of iowa from last night's caucuses. n-b-c news reported hillary clinton as the apparent winner of the iowa democratic caucus after a coin toss in some precincts. that's base off a report from the iowa democratic party chair. but in what some may consider a surprising victory on the republican side, ted cruz won, beating out donald trump. let's get to rico bush with more on the election results. rico - katie, don, ted cruz's victory in the iowa caucuses means he'll pick up eight delegates for the gop party nomination. donald trump and marco rubio each get seven. last night's g-o-p caucuses show us this race is far from over. several candidates

momentum while others are race. with nearly all votes in from the gop caucuses, cruz is ahead of trump 28 percent to 24 percent, but this morning biggest narrative is marco rubio, who had a stronger-than- expected showing and sits at 23 percent in iowa. so, how did cruz do it? entrance polls showed religious voters, who made up two-thirds of caucus goers, favored cruz over trump and rubio. of those who stated values mattered the most, cruz also bested trump and rubio by a small margin. after declaring victory last night, cruz said in his speech his win shows the power of his supporters against the establishment. s/ sen. ted cruz / (r) wins iowa caucus - pl15m tonight is a victory for the grassroots. tonight is a victory for courageous conservatives across iowa and all across this great

hampton road's own groundhog chesapeake chuck today. we'll chat with him about the visit in just a few minutes. now to a happy follow-up for a retired police officer in ohio and his four legged partner. it looks like former officer matt hickey will get to keep police k-9 ajax after all. the police chief in mariette offered ajax to hickey with certain conditions. he'll continue to serve as an auxilary police k-9 handler and get to keep his partner. the police chief said it was the best possible resolution. you may remember donations poured in after hickey said the city was going to auction ajax off. a williamsburg woman faces federal charges for allegedly stealing more than half a million dollars from her elderly employer. 82-year-old pete mcdonald tells 10 on your side, he hired dana morris back in 2011. he says she spent a few hours a week doing his laundry, sorting his bills and mail, and mostly keeping him company. in exchange, he paid her 400-dollars a month.

take live full this morning, we're waiting for hampton police to give us an update on a deadly pedestrian accident from last night. officers say a car hit a man who was crossing west mercury boulevard towards langley square shopping center. it happened around 6:30 he died at the scene. police say they are still reaching out to the man's family, so they can't tell us who he is yet. the driver was not hurt. police have not said anything about charges. the father of a missing virginia teen, found murdered, wants answers. david lovell went to the courthouse yesterday as two virginia tech students faced a judge in connection to his daughter, nicole's, death. police charged david eisenhauer with murder and abudction after they found the missing teen's body this

with improper disposal of a body and accessory after the fact. both are being held without bond. lovell just wants answers. 10.38.12 david lovell/nicole's father "these two individuals took my daughter from this planet and i want to know why and i want all the information i can get." warrants for the two virginia tech students showed no firearms were used in lovell's death. these are the details her father says will be hard to hear. new this morning, upsetting video allegedly showing a daycare director hitting and dropping a child on a mat. we want to warn you it might be hard to watch police in florida just released new cell phone video. investigators say it shows the head of a daycare center striking a four-year- old boy several times with what appears to be a stuffed animal. the video then shows her holding the child about three feet in the air before dropping him face down on a mat. thankfully the child was not hurt. officers say a co-worker sent them this video because she was

good morning and thanks for joining us on wavy news ten at 7 am on fox 43. i'm katie collett. let's get right to the breaking news out of iowa. video of hillary clinton this morning nbc news declared hillary clinton the apparent winner in last night's race among democrats. on the republican side, ted cruz topped donald trump. let's get right to 10 on your side's rico bush who's live in the newsroom with details. rico. don, katie, hillary clinton has squeaked out a very small victory against senator bernie sanders based off final numbers from the iowa democratic party. overnight, the results of the caucuses were so close both candidates were locked in a dead heat.

democratic front-runner and sanders as the closest they have ever had in the state. several races were decided by coin tosses! this is where the numbers stand right now. a razor thin win for the former secretary of state against sanders. let's crunch some numbers for you to give you idea of why this race is so close. according to entrance polls, on the democratic side, voters who wanted experience and wanted the next president to continue obama policies clinton also did especially well with people over 65, married women and moderates. looking at sanders, younger voters and people who valued honesty and trustworthiness most in a candidate went overwhelmingly for him. he also picked up a lot of support from first-time caucus-goers and those who identify as very liberal. 2 supers bernie sanders/presidental candidate - pl17m - 19

was traveling on llewellyn avenue when it hit the minivan in the intersection of west 27th street. that's in the park place neighborhood. witnesses ran to the scene to help. the young boys, and the mother behind the wheel went to the hospital. 10 on your side spoke with the surviving boy's sister. kasaera mcclenny - surviving boy's sister c71 19:38:38 "he's doing okay, he has bruised lungs and a slight concussion." 19:39:08 "sad because that could have been my brother." paramedics treated the pick-up truck driver and his only passenger at the scene for minor injuries. police say they are still investigating the accident. hundreds of people showed up to remember a family last night. friends, relatives and total strangers attended the service for the dooleys at deep creek baptist church in chesapeake, including law enforcement from all over the region. there were several tributes to todd dooley's 27 year career with the police department. patriot guards riders were also there to stand with the american flag before and during the ceremony.
